Zimbabwe Awaits Mnangagwa’s Cabinet Appointments

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe is expected to appoint new Cabinet ministers in the coming days. He is tasked with choosing 22 ministers and their deputies from the 136 members of parliament elected last month.

Sources within the ruling Zanu-PF party indicate the president’s discretion in these appointments is final. While some claim to be lobbying the president’s office for positions, one source dismissed this as meaningless. “Appointment of the Cabinet is at the President’s sole discretion,” they said.

A few names are being discussed as possibilities. Former State Security minister Owen Ncube may return, with reports he has proved himself disciplined enough. In Manicaland province, Joshua Sacco and former minister Supa Mandiwanzira are tipped as strong contender choices. Angelina Gata is also mentioned as potentially replacing the outgoing provincial minister.

Incumbents like Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube and Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka, whom Mnangagwa publicly praised, are expected to retain their roles. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere could also be reappointed. There is said to be some uncertainty around the position currently held by Monica Mutsvangwa.

Forming the Cabinet requires balancing representation from across Zimbabwe’s provinces. While speculation abounds, a Zanu-PF spokesman reiterated the selection process is at the president’s discretion alone. Zimbabweans now await Mnangagwa’s decisions to establish the new direction of the government.
