Advocate Jacob Mudenda has secured his re-election unopposed as the Speaker of the National Assembly, while Cde Tsitsi Gezi has retained her position as Deputy Speaker. The election took place on Friday morning, with both candidates being nominated by Zanu PF.

Interestingly, the election was marred by the absence of CCC MPs, who chose to boycott the process. They only entered the National Assembly chamber after the election had concluded. This development adds a layer of controversy to the proceedings.

The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker follows the recent swearing-in of MPs in the 10th Parliament, which occurred the day before. As part of the official protocol, Advocate Jacob Mudenda took his oath of office in the before Chief Justice Luke Malaba.
