President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi as Vice Presidents. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House in Harare on Friday, presided over by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.
Kembo Mohadi’s previous resignation in March 2021 from his position as Vice President was marred by controversy. Recordings of phone calls, in which he allegedly pestered women for lula lula circulated on various social media platforms. However, Mohadi vehemently denied the allegations, attributing them to distortions on social media, voice cloning, and even political sabotage.

Despite the past controversy surrounding Mohadi, President Mnangagwa has decided to reappoint him as Vice President alongside Constantino Chiwenga. This move signifies the president’s trust in Mohadi’s ability to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
These appointments come at a critical time for Zimbabwe as the country faces various challenges, including economic recovery, political stability, and social development after a disputed election which was declared illegitimate by Sadc and the African Union.
Mnangagwa’s decision to reinstate Mohadi, despite the previous scandal, may generate mixed reactions from the public and further fuel the ongoing debates surrounding accountability and transparency in the country’s political sphere.
