In a tragic turn of events, a man has been apprehended after brutally attacking his father-in-law, resulting in the older man’s untimely death. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Soul Mubau, 29, traveled from Harare to Goromonzi, seeking reimbursement of US$30 he had previously paid to his estranged wife, Sibongile Takundwa.

The assailant’s fury escalated upon discovering that Sibongile had remarried. The altercation culminated in a vicious assault, leaving the victim, David Takundwa, 64, with severe injuries. Tragically, David passed away en route to Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted the harrowing events that unfolded that day. Talent, an employee of David’s, shared his account, stating that Soul arrived with apparent intent to harm. He swiftly dismissed everyone present at the residence, isolating David. Talent recalled, “I want to believe that he came prepared to kill because when he arrived he was quick to dismiss everyone at the house.” The assailant then proceeded to assault David with an iron bar, inflicting grievous harm before fleeing the scene.

Talent further explained, “Soul has been coming here, and Sekuru [David] would cook food for him. I last heard him asking Sekuru about Sibongile’s whereabouts, and uncle was not happy with it.” It appears that David had warned Soul about inquiring after Sibongile, an admonishment that seemingly fueled Soul’s violent outburst.

Sibongile, who had sought refuge from Soul’s abusive behavior by leaving him, expressed her grief, lamenting the loss of her father. “Soul’s evil heart has robbed me of my father,” she said. “I decided to leave him because he was too abusive and would attack people, and I started to fear for my life.” Currently married to another man, Sibongile had returned from her new home to attend her father’s funeral.

Following the assault, Soul sought shelter at his brother’s residence in Stoneridge, Harare. However, he was apprehended by the police yesterday.
