Tragedy Strikes as Fire Claims Lives of Five Children in Laudium, West of Pretoria
Gauteng police have launched an investigation into a devastating fire that resulted in the tragic deaths of five children in Laudium. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when a blaze engulfed six homes at the Itireleng informal settlement, reducing them to ashes.
Heartbreakingly, the bodies of the children were discovered only after the fire had been completely extinguished. The victims, all under the age of seven, were found burnt beyond recognition, compounding the sorrow of the already grieving community.
Authorities have taken two sisters, who are the mothers of the deceased children, into custody while a thorough investigation is conducted to determine the cause of the fire. Disturbingly, preliminary reports suggest that the sisters had left their young ones unattended overnight to indulge in a night of drinking at a nearby tavern.
Thabo Mabaso, spokesperson for Tshwane Emergency Services, expressed deep concern over the incident and appealed to parents to never leave children unsupervised. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that children are always under the watchful care of responsible adults.
As the community mourns the loss of these innocent lives, the investigation into this tragic event continues, with authorities working diligently to uncover the circumstances that led to this devastating fire.
