In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a man identified as Thomas Muzenda from Gokwe, Zimbabwe, has been accused of brutally murdering his own 2-year-old daughter in a suspected ritual act.
The horrifying incident took place in January 2023 in Village 17 Mupukuta, under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North.
According to the Midlands Police Spokesperson, Emmanuel Mahoko, Muzenda, 38, had recently gone through a divorce, leaving him in custody of their two children, a 7-year-old boy and the 2-year-old girl. Seeking to enhance his mining business, Muzenda allegedly approached a local traditional healer known as Dhumba for assistance.
Tragically, Dhumba reportedly advised Muzenda that he needed to sacrifice one of his children for the ritual. Succumbing to this twisted advice, Muzenda is said to have taken the life of his innocent 2-year-old daughter, gruesomely removing her heart before callously disposing of her body in a disused mine.
The horrifying truth came to light when the maternal grandmother of the victim visited Muzenda’s home to inquire about her granddaughter’s well-being. However, she was met with evasive answers and an unsettling atmosphere. Concerned and suspicious, she promptly reported the situation to the police, leading to a swift investigation and subsequent arrest of Muzenda.
Meanwhile, the traditional healer Dhumba remains at large, and authorities are actively seeking his apprehension. The chilling nature of this crime has left the community in sh0ck and mourning for the innocent life lost.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has condemned the alleged murder and vows to bring all involved parties to justice. The investigation into this harrowing case continues as the community grapples with the devastating tragedy that unfolded in their midst.
