In a sh0cking incident at a popular night club in Harare’s Central Business District, a gang of robbers boldly targeted a man, resorting to extreme measures to extort money from him. Tinashe Gwara (23) of Old Canaan fell victim to the robbers, who brandished a toy gun and handcuffs.
Following the incident, three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the crime. Godwin Isheunopa (21) of Ruwa, Gift Jofirisi (36) of Mbare, and Amos Madamombe, also of Ruwa, were taken into custody.
According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the suspects used a toy gun to intimidate the victim. He provided the following account of the incident:
“Circumstances were that on August 12, at around 0200 hours, the complainant was seated inside Big Apple Night Club when Gift Jofirisi grabbed him by the neck accusing him of being in possession of dagga.
“He dragged the complainant to one of the booking rooms and locked him inside.
“Gift returned after about 20 minutes accompanied by accused, Godwin and Amos.”
Added Chakanza: “The accused produced a toy gun, pepper spray and handcuffs demanding valuables.
“They stole the complainant’s Huawei Y9 cellphone and cash amounting to US$5.
“The accused then called the complainant’s wife and told her to bring US$50 for the complainant to be released.
“At around 0240 hours, they released the complainant and held his cellphone, instructing him to look for US$50 and come back to collect his cellphone.”
The police swiftly intervened and apprehended the suspects, leading to their arrest.
