A 24-year-old caretaker tragically took his own life after being confronted by his employers about items that had gone missing from the property he looked after.
Isaac Nyamazana, from Borrowdale, had worked as a caretaker at a house in the area. On Monday evening, his employers spoke to him regarding goods that had been stolen from the premises.
The conversation did not go well, and Nyamazana hanged himself from a tree using an electric cable. His body was discovered the next morning by his wife, Alice Marufu, who alerted the police.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, stating that investigators had learned Nyamazana was seen heading to a borehole pump with an electric cable after speaking with his employers. He was later found hanging from a tree outside the yard.
Nyathi said “The employers asked him why things were being stolen at the house. Investigations revealed that the now deceased was later seen going towards a borehole pump with an electric cable. He was found this (yesterday) morning hanging from a tree outside the yard.”
Nyamazana’s body was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
