Popularly known as Mhosva or Mama Vee, the talented actor and social media personality, whose real name is Admire Mushambi, has made a great impact in the entertainment industry, thanks to his comic antics as well as his wittiness and creativeness.
Mama Vee has become one of most followed comedians and actors on social media. His strong Bocha dialect has also endeared him with thousands of followers.
He has managed to make a mark in comedy, an industry that has scores of actors and actresses trying – and some failing – to be recognised.
His character, where he acts as a well-built and humorous woman who is domineering in most skits, has been his major trump card to glory.
Even off camera, Mama Vee is a jovial character who is full of energy.
In an interview with The Manica Post early this week, Mama Vee said his technical knowledge in electrical power engineering has made him a shrewd strategist and a sharp thinker such that he does not struggle to craft amusing scripts.
Mama Vee hails from Muchineuta Village in Bocha under Chief Marange.
Manicaland is home to scores of renowned actors, dead or alive, including the likes of the late Lazarus “Gringo” Boora, John “Chibhodhoro” Muyambo who rose to prominence through the famous “Mukadota” series, as well as Simon “Mutirowafanza” Shumba, who was a hilarious actor and graced local television in the 90s, thereby putting the province in the limelight.
Although Mama Vee still has a long way to go or possibly a lot to learn from these renowned actors, the lanky actor has shown passion, determination and the zeal to become the next jewel of Manicaland in the local showbiz industry.
He did his primary education at Zhawari Primary School in Marange before proceeding to Gwirindindi and later Dangamvura High Schools.
He proceeded to Kwekwe Polytechnic to study electrical power engineering.
Mama Vee then ventured into comedy in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdowns while in South Africa.
He later became an established brand through tackling day-to-day social issues.
Said Mama Vee: “The journey started during the Covid-19 era when I decided to develop my career. I already had the passion so I decided to make everything professional.
“I had the passion for acting and traditional dancing. I started doing skits and they went viral, which marked the birth of ‘Mhosva or Mama Vee’. I became so consistent and gained more followers on my social media handles. I am happy with how the journey has gone by,” he said.
And how is Mhosva managing fame at the age of 24?
“Being a celebrity is like a package that comes with a lot of things. In fact, there are things that one should do and should not. Before I do anything, I ask myself what people will say because I am now on the public domain, which makes me an easy prey for criticism.
“However, at the end of the day, I have my private life to live and I should not mind what other people think of me,” he said.
Mama Vee said he loves acting as a woman, adding that it is some form of art.
“I am a strategist. I noticed what was missing in this comedy industry then came up with the idea of acting as a woman. I managed to do what people feared to do, which is acting as a woman, dressed like one,” he said.
Off camera, Mama Vee enjoys travelling and is a nature enthusiast. He often travels from his Harare base to Mutare once a month.
Mama Vee is single and not dɑting anyone at the moment.
