The opposition CCC party yesterday accused top government officials of spreading lies about the number of opposition rallies sanctioned and access to state media.
CCC spokesman Fadzai Mahere hit out at claims by Home Affairs permanent secretary Gerald Gwinji that police allowed 345 CCC gatherings while banning just 65. She said at least 101 CCC rallies have actually been banned or disrupted by police illegally.
“The position is grossly inaccurate,” blasted Mahere. She challenged police to prove their fake figures. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi was not reachable for comment.
Information minister Paradza also lied that opposition parties refuse free airtime on ZBC, claimed Mahere. She said it is public knowledge that ZBC refuses fair coverage to CCC and its leader Nelson Chamisa.
“Whatever token coverage is given to the opposition is biased, derogatory and manipulated, in contravention of the Constitution and the electoral law,” fumed Mahere.
She said CCC is ready to appear on all fairly moderated platforms that respect the Constitution. And she challenged ZBC to give Chamisa live and unfettered airtime, just like they roll out the red carpet for Mnangagwa and Zanu PF.
The govt spin doctors are clearly caught lying through their back teeth as election season hots up, blasted Mahere, daring police to prove their bogus statistics about opposition rally sanctions.
