The lifeless body of a Chinhoyi woman who had been missing since June was found floating in the Hunyani River on Saturday morning, sparking mystery over what happened.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for later today at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, where the body was taken to.
The remains were discovered by fishmongers on the river, who alerted the police.
Ngwenya’s son, Lovemore, said his mother had gone missing in June. He and his sister were able to positively identify the deceased as their mother.
The discovery comes amid a worrying increase in murders in the town, after another Chinhoyi woman was recently found dead near a stream in the Hunyani High Density suburb.
Without more information from police, the mysterious circumstances surrounding Ngwenya’s death remain unclear. Her family and the local community will be seeking answers about how she ended up in the river a month after disappearing.
The unexplained death also highlights broader safety concerns in Chinhoyi, as residents grapple with a surge in violent crime.
