KOMBI MYSTERY: Man in serious trouble after hiding vehicle belonging to armed robbery suspect

A man appeared before a magistrate, accused of concealing a vehicle bought with the proceeds of an armed robbery in the capital city.

Shadreck Maroya, 36, was hauled before Magistrate Munashe Chibanda where he was remanded in custody till today for a bail application.

Court heard how Maroya’s brother-in-law Jonathan Tembo, was arrested last month for an armed robbery at Eastgate’s Satguru Travels store where he netted US$10,000.

Prosecutors claim Tembo revealed he used the loot to buy a commuter minibus, which he then hid at Maroya’s house to avoid detection.

Police allege Maroya then stashed the stolen vehicle at a friend’s place in Madokero, from where officers recovered it.

The magistrate heard the brazen criminal tried to obstruct the course of justice by concealing the evidence – in the shape of a full-sized minibus bought with armed robbery cash.

If convicted, Maroya faces a long stretch behind bars for playing accomplice to ruthless thieves who targeted an innocent business in a callous heist.
