A 20-year-old commercial ƨǝx worker, Mercy Chisiyo, has been sentenced to six months in prison for sleeping with a teenage boy. However, Chinhoyi Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki commuted the sentence to 210 hours of community service.
According to NewZimbabwe, the complainant in the matter was a 15-year-old boy from Shackleton suburb, Chinhoyi. On June 23 this year, the boy met Chisiyo at Mukanya Bar where she was soliciting for clients. They agreed to have a ƨǝxuɑl encounter for a fee of US$5, and the boy surrendered his Huawei cellphone as collateral.
The two then proceeded to Chisiyo’s room in Murereka, where they had protected ƨǝx. Two days later, the boy approached the ƨǝx worker to pay the outstanding fee and retrieve his gadget, but she refused to hand it over. The boy then reported the incident to the police, who discovered that Chisiyo had unlawfully had ƨǝx with a minor.
In court, the state prosecutor led by Tafadzwa Knight Rwodzi argued that Chisiyo had violated the law by having ƨǝxuɑl interc0urse with a young person.
The judge ruled that Chisiyo acted unlawfully and sentenced her to six months imprisonment, which was commuted to community service. The incident has left many sh0cked, with some calling for stiffer penalties for those who engage in such acts.
