An errant driver who knocked down and ran over a young couple before fleeing the scene has finally been hauled before the courts to answer for his crime.
Christopher Sithole, 46, appeared in court this week charged with culpable homicide, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report the crash to police within 24 hours.
According to HMetro, Sithole was arrested at a panel beating shop where he was trying to get his damaged car fixed after the fatal crash on Mutare Road last week. Sithole could not give a believable explanation for the damage.
The court heard how on July 8 at around 1am, Sithole negligently drove his car and ploughed into Takudzwa Marange and Princess Moyo who were standing by their vehicle on the roadside.
After the collision, Sithole neither stopped to help the injured pair nor contacted police as required by law.
It was only a tip-off from the panel beater where Sithole took his damaged car that alerted police, who arrested him for failing to report the accident.
