Two homeless people face charges after allegedly leaving a man for dead while robbing him in the Avenues area of Harare.
Panashe Nyamurowa and Nyasha Majoni were hauled to court yesterday accused of attacking Ngonidzashe Sibanda on Sunday afternoon.
Prosecutors claim the duo, along with three others still at large, pounced on the pedestrian around 3pm at the corner of Sixth Street and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.
They allegedly bludgeoned him with bricks and a wooden stick before stealing his cellphones, headphones, power bank and US$40 in cash.
The badly injured Sibanda reported the matter to police, leading to Majoni’s arrest. Two of the stolen cellphones were recovered from her.
The homeless pair were not granted bail and were remanded in custody until today for a bail ruling.
The callous robbery – leaving a man fighting for his life – has sh0cked Avenues residents and highlighted the dangers some face from opportunistic criminals.
Police have urged anyone with information on the three outstanding suspects to come forward to help bring them to justice.
