The people of Mt Darwin South are rallying behind Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa ahead of a key rally by VP Constantino Chiwenga, the constituency’s candidate has claimed.

Kudakwashe Mupamhanga told The Herald the rally comes as former Cabinet Minister Saviour Kasukuwere launches a last-ditch presidential bid, hoping to cash in on his Zanu PF connections.

But Cde Mupamhanga said: “It’s good VP Chiwenga is coming to set the record straight – Kasukuwere is no longer a member and will not derail the revolution.”

He added: “The people of Mt Darwin are more energised than ever to back Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa at the elections.”

Thousands have flocked to the rally venue to hear VP Chiwenga – a stalwart of the liberation struggle.

Minister of State Monica Mavhunga confirmed VP Chiwenga’s visit, saying: “We feel honoured to host the presidium again after successfully holding Independence Day celebrations.”

But while Zanu PF is rallying the base in Mt Darwin, Kasukuwere’s presidential bid threatens to split the former ruling party – and undermine President Mnangagwa – in the decisive poll on August 23.

Only time will tell if the great Zanu PF family can overcome its differences to secure another election victory.
