A lucky miner is counting his blessings after escaping with his life during a frightening armed robbery ordeal.
The unnamed prospector was driving home to his Trenance suburb house after a hard day’s work at Dodolo 18 Good Memory Syndicate mine in Inyathi when three thugs pounced.
Sources say Bhekimpilo Ncube (39) and accomplices Thembani and Thandazani Dube tailed the miner in their car before ambushing him outside his home.
As the miner got out of his Toyota Lexus, one of the robbers opened fire, shooting through the driver’s window and hitting the dashboard. The terrified miner was then ordered to lie on the ground where the gang kicked and slapped him while demanding money.
While one robber kept guard, the other two ransacked the miner’s car and allegedly made off with over $20,000 in cash and three cellphones. They then sped away in the Lexus, dumping it later at Ngozi mine after stripping the tyres.
Police apprehended Ncube at his Gwabalanda home but the other two accomplices remain at large. Ncube faces armed robbery charges and is set to appear in court.
The traumatic experience has left the miner shaken and depressed, sources say. “The incident left him traumatised and depressed.”
Luckily the miner escaped with his life, but the armed robbery ordeal has taken an emotional toll. Ncube and his gang must now face justice for this brazen crime.
