The Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating a case of leaked internal documents related to elections security. A memorandum meant for police commanders with guidance for the 2023 harmonized elections was leaked to the media and public.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said in a statement that leaking of internal police documents is unacceptable. He said the leaked memorandum was intended only for police commanders and was not meant for public or media consumption.
The police spokesperson said investigations have been launched to identify who leaked the memorandum and what their motives were. The police do not condone leaking of internal memos by “unruly elements within the system,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said the police are determined to identify the culprit and establish the reason behind leaking the confidential document as they take the matter seriously.
