A daring Harare man is behind bars after chucking rocks at President Mnangagwa’s passing motorcade in a brazen attack.

Benjamin Mupombwe, 30, from Epworth township hurled stones at Mnangagwa’s motorcade as it drove along Julius Nyerere Way in the capital last week, say cops.

Cops had closed part of the road and were waiting for the President’s motorcade to pass when Mupombwe suddenly appeared and launched his stone attack.

The stone-chucking hooligan was immediately nabbed by cops and charged with disorderly conduct. He appeared in court on Friday where a magistrate remanded him in custody until today for a bail hearing.

This is just the latest in a string of incidents where angry citizens have confronted Mnangagwa directly.

Last month in Epworth again, security agents had to grab Masimba Graig Muganira after he rushed at Mnangagwa and tried to confront him as he gave a speech.

And just weeks ago, Dumisani Dangirwa, 43, was also arrested and charged with insulting the President after he allegedly called Mnangagwa a failure who would lose the coming elections in August.

President Mnangagwa’s popularity appears to be declining as Zimbabwe faces mounting economic challenges ahead of the upcoming election.

The country is grappling with high living costs, sluggish growth and allegations of corruption under Mnangagwa’s government, all of which seem to be fuelling public dissatisfaction.
