Zimbabwe Republic Police has denied reports claiming that they banned a rally organized by the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) scheduled for today at Chipadze Stadium in Bindura.

According to police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the opposition party failed to obtain permission from the Bindura Town Council to use the stadium, which is currently undergoing renovations.

Nyathi further explained that the party representative later informed the police that the local authority had turned down the request to use the facility because the stadium was undergoing renovations.

Despite being offered personal stands by the local authority’s mayor and deputy mayor, which were located in a private area, the CCC failed to obtain authorization to hold the rally.

The party then changed the venue to a privately owned open space in Mazowe, but the owner of the space did not give them authorization to utilize it.

The police had engaged the CCC convenor but were unable to provide security arrangements due to insufficient notice.
