The CCC opposition party has been banned yet again from holding a rally – this time in Bindura – with police claiming their chosen venue is an unsuitable “bushy land” with no facilities.
In a letter to CCC, Bindura police said the rally site was a “high-risk security threat” that could spread diseases and make emergency access impossible.
Police claimed CCC also failed to give “sufficient notice” to authorities and advised the party to find an alternative venue and reschedule.
However, critics accuse cops of peddling petty excuses to unjustly block CCC’s freedom to campaign ahead of next year’s elections.
On Wednesday, police also disrupted a CCC rally in Chiredzi, claiming the party failed to meet “security requirements” – and another rally in Chivi was banned due to the venue allegedly being double-booked by ZANU PF.
CCC officials slammed the police action as partisan political interference, arguing the party had followed all legal procedures to notify authorities of its rallies.
But police claim emergency response would be impossible at CCC’s chosen “bushy land” – exposing the flimsy excuses being used by authorities to frustrate Nelson Chamisa’s Presidential campaign bid!
