In a horrifying daylight robbery, a Bulawayo woman was stabbed, held hostage at knifepoint and robbed of $14,000 moments after withdrawing the cash from a bureau de change.
The still unidentified victim had collected the money on behalf of her employer before parking her car in the city center, wrapping the cash in a plastic bag and food container.
But the thief – apparently lying in wait – pounced, jumping into the woman’s car through the rear passenger door and pulling a knife. He demanded the money and when the woman resisted, he viciously stabbed her once in the left palm and once in the thigh.
The brute then made off with the $14,000 as well as the woman’s iPhone 11, briefly holding her hostage in her own vehicle in the brazen attack.
Police have launched a manhunt for the knifeman, urging the public to assist and warning businesses to provide security when handling large sums.
The daytime robbery reflects Zimbabwe’s escalating crime wave, from students axed during home invasions to major bank heists.
