President Emmerson Mnangagwa is telling Zimbabweans to rally behind his ruling Zanu-PF party in elections next month. He says voting for Zanu-PF will defend the country’s independence and freedom.
Addressing supporters in Bulilima, the President said “We are the ones who brought liberation… So, we must vote for Zanu-PF to defend our independence.”
He urged party candidates to preach peace, unity and love. Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans must remember where they came from and why they fought for freedom from colonial rule.
The President called for unity, saying “all of us are Zimbabweans sonke, siyezwana”. He said building the country is the responsibility of Zimbabweans themselves under the mantra “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”.
Mnangagwa touted development projects including irrigation schemes, road building and borehole drilling. He highlighted the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme to improve food security and new irrigation schemes across the country.
The President said “We now have land…So the war came and we removed the whites. Now that our land is with us…we can build our country at our own pace.”
He pledged “Under the Second Republic, we shall make sure every single province shall have universities, shall have technical colleges.”
