A 46-year-old vendor from Bulawayo, Dumisani Mpala, has died after being violently attacked by two suspects following a misunderstanding over the pricing of cigarettes and razor blades.
The suspects are yet to be arrested, and the police have called on members of the public to provide information that could lead to their apprehension.
According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the suspects approached Mpala at his vending stall and, after inquiring about the prices of his products, accused him of overcharging.
One of the suspects then picked up a hammer and used it to strike Mpala on the head, while the other assaulted him with a stick until he collapsed.
Mpala sustained a cut on his forehead and bruises all over his body. Despite battling for his life for nearly a week, he succumbed to his injuries on 27 June.
