A security guard has been arrested and charged with rɑpǝ in Zimbabwe after he allegedly ƨǝxuɑlly assaulted a 46-year-old woman he caught illegally fetching firewood on a farm in Seke.
The accused, Alfred Dzenga, handcuffed the woman and rɑpǝd her once after introducing himself as a municipal officer and accusing her of illegally cutting down trees. He then took her axe as evidence and ordered her to follow him to their base.
On the way, Dzenga stopped and ordered the woman to sit down, but she refused. He then sprayed an unknown substance on her face and rɑpǝd her without protection. After the attack, he ordered the woman to take her axe and firewood and go home. The woman reported the rɑpǝ to the traditional chief’s officers in Savanhu Village.
On Saturday, the victim encountered Dzenga near Hunyani River and notified the chief’s officers who arrested him and handed him over to Hatfield Police Station. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest and stated that Dzenga would appear in court soon to face charges of rɑpǝ.
The incident highlights the issue of ƨǝxuɑl violence against women in Zimbabwe, which has become a growing concern in recent years. The authorities have been urged to take strict action against perpetrators of such heinous crimes and provide support to victims of ƨǝxuɑl violence.
