A man identified as Diva died after a fight at a popular bar opposite Belgravia Shopping Centre in Harare in the early hours of yesterday.
According to a bar attendant at the establishment known as KwaBelinda, she was sh0cked to hear that Diva had died when the bar closed around 3am.
It was reported that Diva had an altercation with another man which turned physical and led to his death. The attendant, Precious Masimba, said she does not know exactly what happened but heard that a man had been beaten to death.
One of the waitresses at the bar failed to receive payment from one of the men involved in the fight who is reportedly a regular client but is yet to settle his bill.
The incident has created unease among regulars at the bar. A nearby vendor said a dark cloud now hangs over the place that had become popular. The vendor said they never expected such a sad incident at an upscale establishment like that.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said police are yet to receive a report about the man’s death when contacted for comment. He said police are checking if a report was made and will provide details once available.
Further details about the circumstances surrounding Diva’s death and the identity of those involved were not provided. Police and bar staff have yet to disclose further information.
