A Buhera man is accusing his former in-laws of causing him misfortune out of jealousy over his remɑrriage.
Maxwell Chigwizura, 32, claims he developed a growth on his head shortly after he mɑrried a new wife in 2020, two years after separating from his ex-wife Ndaizivei Matafa.
Chigwizura alleges that Matafa took his underweɑr and gave it to her parents so they could use it to ‘fix’ him. He said one traditional healer told him the growth was punishment from his former in-laws for leaving their daughter.
The growth, which Chigwizura said started as a small pimple in 2022, has now grown as large as his head. He bandages it to cover it up.
Chigwizura has consulted doctors, spiritual healers and traditional healers but says none have been able to find a solution. He underwent an operation in October to remove the growth but it grew back by December.
Chigwizura’s aunt, Jenny Gutsire, confirmed they have sought numerous remedies for the “strange ailment” with no success. A doctor recently diagnosed Chigwizura with a cancerous growth but it continues to expand.
Gutsire said Chigwizura now needs $600 for another operation.
However, Matafa denies stealing Chigwizura’s underweɑr and causing him any harm. She said Chigwizura only contacted her recently after developing the growth and that they are not on good terms. Matafa said she has moved on with her life and is in a stable relɑtionship.
Chigwizura has appealed for assistance to remove the growth.
