Chegutu West MP Dexter Nduna claimed he was injured in a scuffle with Zanu PF supporters outside the Chinhoyi nomination court on Wednesday.
Nduna, who recently lost the Zanu PF primary election for the constituency, said he attended court for an unrelated matter when the incident occurred.
He told community members in a message that while at the court, an unnamed aspiring MP and his supporters attacked him, accusing him of planning to submit nomination papers as an independent candidate.
Nduna alleged he suffered a broken arm and leg in the altercation. He said a police report had been filed and the perpetrators could face arrest.
Four independent candidates successfully filed nomination papers for the Chegutu West constituency, including Nduna’s main rival in 2018 Gift Konjana.
Farai Chigavazira of Zanu PF and Admore Chivero of the CCC are seen as the main contenders for the seat in the upcoming elections.
Nduna, a former air force officer, has held the Chegutu West seat since 2013 but lost the recent Zanu PF primary election. He has faced previous accusations of illegally prospecting for gold.
