Passengers on a bus bound for Gwanda were left sh0cked after a woman insisted on taking an injured python that had been run over by the vehicle, claiming it was a “gift from her ancestors”.
According to BMetro, the bizarre drama unfolded on Monday when the unidentified woman – accompanied by a man – spotted the 2.5-meter reptile after it had been hit by the Inter-Africa bus.
She began crying and begging people not to kill the python, saying: “I’m supposed to take care of it. It’s a gift from my ancestors.”
The woman’s accomplice then fearlessly grabbed the snake’s tail and ran around with the giant reptile, triggering chaos and screams from panicked onlookers.
When the man tried to put the python in a sack, some confrontational passengers demanded money if he wanted to take it. The situation turned violent as one man snatched the snake and fled with it into nearby bushes.
The woman and man pleaded in vain for the python’s return, still insisting it was meant for them as an ancestral gift.
Pythons are a protected species in Zimbabwe but this woman’s bizarre behaviour and struggle to obtain the injured reptile left passengers stunned and questioning her motives.
