Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has donated a truck, solar panels, and US$100 000 in cash to a Catholic church in memory of his late mum.
Chivayo, who worships at the Johane Masowe apostolic church, said his mum attended St. Gerard’s parish for 20 years.
He bought a new Toyota Hilux truck costing US$40 000 and US$100 000 in cash which the priest, Fr. Mark Chikuni, said will fund projects at the church.
Fr. Chikuni thanked Chivayo, writing the timely gifts “will make a huge difference” and “we pray your mum has been immortalised”.
The businessman, who has made headlines for legal disputes, also bought new off-road Toyotas worth US$162 000 as Easter gifts for his church leader and wife.
Though controversial, Chivayo’s generous donation in memory of his mum has been welcomed by the grateful Catholic community.
