Two ruthless armed robbers have been sentenced to 10 years in jail for attacking a man and his maid at their residence and robbing them of $3,050. Joseph Phiri (44) and Clever Mununudzi Nengomasha (50) were initially sentenced by Harare regional Magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa, who suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.
The robbers had entered Andre Neethling’s residence on February 2 last year at around 7:30am, armed with an unidentified pistol and wearing balaclavas. They pointed their pistols at Neethling and ordered him and his maid, Lorraine Makwaravha, to comply with their instructions.
Phiri and Nengomasha tied up the victims with skipping ropes and covered them with blankets before stealing cash, firearms, ammunition, a Smartwatch, and a Samsung S20. They were caught on camera during the robbery, and the footage helped the police to identify and arrest them.
Although two others were implicated in the robbery, only Phiri and Nengomasha were convicted. The stolen property was worth $5,500, but only $1,600 was recovered.
This brazen attack on innocent victims has resulted in the robbers receiving a sentence of 10 years in jail. Justice has been served, and the victims can rest easy knowing that these criminals are behind bars.
