Zimbabweans cheat death after bus overturns in south africa

Forty Zimbabweans had a lucky escape after the bus they were travelling in overturned on the N1 highway in South Africa’s Limpopo province yesterday evening.

The bus, which was travelling from Gauteng to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, flipped over near the town of Makhado, according to officials.

Limpopo Department of Transport spokesperson Mafenya Lediga confirmed the incident, saying miraculously no one was injured or killed. However, the cause of the accident is still being investigated.

In April this year, eight people believed to be Zimbabweans died in an accident on the same N1 highway near Musina town. More than 50 Zimbabweans have lost their lives on the N1 in the past 12 months alone.

The N1 is an important trade corridor linking South Africa with Zimbabwe, Zambia and other nations to the north. But it has become notorious for accidents involving Zimbabwean commuters, with many lives cut tragically short.
