Despite comedienne and birthday girl Mai TT now cooling her heels behind bars, organizers of the Winter Warmer Concert insist the show will still go on as planned.
Mai TT was set to celebrate her big day at the July 2 family concert headlined by sungura star Alick Macheso, Dorcas Moyo and Mathias Mhere. But after her nine month jail sentence for theft last week, questions have been raised over whether the gig at Harare Gardens will happen at all.
But concert producer Samuel “Boss Werras” Saungweme says they will still honor Mai TT’s birthday in spirit even if she can’t attend physically. “The show continues. We’ve got a massive line up and Mai TT was part of the event to mark her birthday so we’ll still celebrate that, ” he told H-Metro.
Despite losing Mai TT, Werras says they’ve added more artists to the bill including Diamond Musica, Silent Killer and Merciless. And he promises a true family affair with daytime performances and kids activities.
Jailed Zimdancehall artist Blot has been cut from the lineup due to the “family” theme. But the concert will indeed “rock on” with heavy hitters like Alick Macheso, Dorcas Moyo and Mathias Mhere sure to deliver the musical goods.
While Mai TT remains behind bars, organizers say the party she hoped to celebrate with will march on without her – a further bittersweet twist to the singer’s sudden fall from grace. But the show, they vow, must and will indeed go on.
