A MAN who was involved in a heated argument with a group of people at the shops in Insuza, Matabeleland North province, appeared before a Bulawayo regional magistrate facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly opening fire on two villagers ,injuring one of them on both legs.
Mehluli Ncube (43) appeared before magistrate Collet Ncube and was remanded out of custody to 23 January after his lawyer appealed for bail and was granted $500 000 bail.
Allegations against Ncube are that while he was at Hlanganani business centre and being involved in an altercation with a group of people two villagers (names not supplied) walked towards him to greet him. While they were a few metres away from him Ncube moved off to his car and the pair followed him, the court heard.
When the pair were a few metres from him Ncube allegedly reached for his pistol from his car and shot one of the men on both legs and he fell to the ground, the court heard.
After that he got into his car and drove off. The injured villager was rushed to Insuza clinic for medical attention. It is alleged that while they were at the clinic Ncube arrived and ferried his victim to a hospital in Bulawayo. The incident was reported to the police and he was subsequently arrested.
