IT was an extremely horrific incident of ƨǝxuɑl violence for a 25-year-old woman from Chief Sigola’s area, Umzingwane District when her 53-year-old neighbour broke into her house and repeatedly forced her to suck his mɑnhood while he placed a machete on her neck before allegedly rɑping her.
The district has been grappling with the threat of rɑpe as young girls and women are reportedly at the mercy of ƨǝxuɑl harassment by drunken omakorokoza.
Of late, residents from Esigodini have been complaining over alleged police failure to deal with the rɑpists and omakorokoza terrorising the area. To address problems related to early ƨǝxuɑl abuse and child mɑrriages in the district, a consortium comprising the Government, Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association (ZWLA) and other NGOs, in December last year spearheaded programmes to raise awareness on the impact of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on young women, girls, and harmful practices.
According to the Zimbabwe Gender Commission at least 22 women are rɑped daily in Zimbabwe, with an average of one woman being abused every 75 minutes translating to an average of 646 women being ƨǝxuɑlly-abused monthly and one in three girls is raped or ƨǝxuɑlly assaulted before they reach the age of 18.
Circumstances to the latest incident of ƨǝxuɑl abuse are that on 27 May and at around 1am Dumiso Ncube who was armed with a knife and machete went to the victim’s homestead where upon arrival he broke her bedr00m door which was locked from inside using an unknown object.
When he got inside, the victim reportedly screamed for help and Ncube ordered her to keep quiet while threatening to kill her.
Ncube who was armed with a machete and a knife then ordered the victim to repeatedly suck his mɑnhood while he placed a machete on the victim’s neck.
He forced her to lie on the bed and allegedly rɑped her. Neighbours who had earlier on heard screams emanating from the victim’s house later arrived and flashed their torches.
Sensing danger Ncube reportedly bolted out of the victim’s bedr00m and fled. The neighbours followed in hot pursuit. Ncube, however, managed to outpace them but they had already positively identified him.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Ncube.
Ncube has since appeared before Esigodini resident magistrate charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault and rɑpe.
