Four children tragically lost their lives and 11 others were injured in a fatal vehicle accident last Friday along the Juliasdale-Nyanga Road in Zimbabwe.
The accident occurred near the 26 km marker when a Nissan Caravan carrying 30 school children veered off the road and flipped over three times before landing on its side.
The injured children were taken to Victoria Chitepo Hospital for medical treatment. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident in a statement, expressing condolences to the families of the victims.
According to Assistant Commissioner Nyathi, the Nissan Caravan was traveling towards Watsomba when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. Four children died at the scene while 11 others sustained injuries. The victims’ bodies were taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital morgue.
In a separate incident last week, five people including four children died while 21 others were injured in a collision between a Mazda truck and an Inter Africa bus along the Harare-Masvingo Road.
The truck, carrying 22 school children, was hit on the driver’s side by the bus. The impact caused the truck to veer off the road. One child died at the scene while three others passed away after being taken to Beatrice Hospital. The bodies were taken to Beatrice Hospital morgue for autopsies.
