Acting President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday visited the scene of a fatal road accident which killed 4 children and injured 18 others in Masvingo. The accident involved a bus and a truck carrying 22 students from Karenboon Primary School.
The truck driver also died from his injuries after being admitted to hospital. Acting President Chiwenga was accompanied by Transport Minister Felix Mhona and other officials.
In his remarks, the Acting President said government will assist the bereaved families and injured children.
Government will build a new school nearby to reduce travel distance for students and provide an ambulance in the area for emergencies, Chiwenga said.
He said government is revising laws to impose stiffer penalties for negligent driving that causes fatal accidents. Authorities should also ensure vehicles are roadworthy to avoid loss of life and property, Chiwenga added.
