Three Harare residents were charged in court for allegedly creating fake school-leaving exam certificates to get admitted into foreign universities.
The accused were identified as Cindy Mutswatiwa, Kundai Mutape, and Malvern Nengomasha. They were granted bail of $200,000 each. Another accused, Molyn Mugodi, is still at large.
According to the charges, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission arrested Mugodi in June for creating fraudulent identity cards. The trio then allegedly used Mugodi’s printer and computer to make fake Zimbabwe Examinations Council certificates for “O” Level and “A” Level exams.
The investigation revealed that Mugodi worked with the three accused to verify the fake certificates at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a fee.
In January 2022, Mutswatiwa allegedly forged her “O” Level certificate to apply for a dentistry degree at Donetsk National University in Ukraine. Mugodi also purportedly made a forged “O” Level certificate for Mutape.
