A tragic accident on the Harare-Masvingo Road claimed the lives of 4 pupils and injured 21 others.
According to police, a bus traveling from Harare to Masvingo collided with a Mazda T35 pickup truck that was carrying 22 pupils. The crash caused the truck to veer off the road.
The impact of the collision threw all 22 pupils out of the truck. Sadly, one pupil was killed immediately in the crash while 3 others succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to Beatrice Hospital.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident, saying it happened on May 31, 2023 around 4pm at the 81-kilometer peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road.
The bus, an Inter Africa Zhongtong model, was carrying 59 passengers at the time of the collision. All 4 victims’ bodies were taken to Beatrice Hospital mortuary while the 21 injured pupils were also admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
Investigations are ongoing to determine thecause of the accident that claimed the young lives of 4 pupils and left so many others injured. Authorities expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged all road users to exercise caution.
