Seven people died in a bus accident that happened in Zhombe along the Gokwe-Kwekwe highway on Saturday evening.
The accident happened last night some 31 kilometres before Kwekwe town along the Gokwe–Kwekwe highway, when a cross-border Justo Motors bus burst a front tyre, resulting in the driver losing control and the bus overturning.
National Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident, saying the bus was travelling from Gokwe heading to Beitbridge when the unfortunate incident took place.
“The bus was travelling from Gokwe to Beitbridge and upon reaching the 15-kilometre peg, it burst its front right tyre and the driver lost control. Six people died on the spot and another one upon admission at Kwekwe General Hospital. 43 people were injured but they were rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital,” he said, adding more details will be released.
When the ZBC News crew arrived at the scene, the fire brigade team was busy removing some of the bodies and some debris from the rubbles.
The bodies of the deceased have since been ferried to Kwekwe General Hospital for post-mortem. rewrite the story
