Lehlohonolo Deeu (27) was sentenced to life in prison by the Kroonstad Regional Court for a rɑpǝ he committed on 10 September 2019.
According to Sergeant Josephine Rani, the suspect was allegedly hired to take children on holiday to a nearby resort. While at the resort, he made advances on the 13-year-old, which she refused. Upon departure, the suspect made sure to take all the children home and left the 13-year-old in the vehicle while he went to a tavern.
“The victim, whom he left in the car, asked the suspect to take her home because she wanted to use the toilet. He also asked the victim to go to the tavern to use the bathroom and he followed her. Then he took the opportunity and rɑpǝd the suspect in one of the tavern’s toilets, after which he took her home,” Rani said.
Once home, the 13-year-old victim told her mother about what had happened. She went to the police and filed a case of rɑpǝ against the suspect.
The investigating officer, Sergeant Sellwane Moodisa of the Kroonstad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sǝxuɑl Offenses (FCS) Unit, worked tirelessly to ensure that Lehlohonolo Deeu was held accountable for the crime he committed.
The might of the law caught up with him, and on Tuesday, 23 May, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
