JUST IN: Kwekwe head-on accident death toll rises

The number of fatalities from a head-on collision outside Kwekwe has climbed to seven after another victim who was hospitalized succumbed to their injuries.

On Monday night, a Nissan NP300 traveling towards Kwekwe collided head-on with a Honda Fit going in the opposite direction at the 15 km peg along the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road.

Four people, including both drivers, died at the scene of the horrific crash. Two more victims who were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital were later confirmed dead.

On Tuesday, one additional person who had been hospitalized died from their injuries, bringing the death toll from the tragic collision to seven.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the spokesperson for the national police, confirmed the latest fatality. He said investigators are still working to identify all the victims and determine the cause of the accident.

The Nissan had three passengers while the Honda Fit was reported to have eight people on board at the time of the crash. All of the deceased were passengers as both drivers perished at the scene.

The head-on collision outside Kwekwe has left seven people dead in what appears to be one of the deadliest road accidents in Zimbabwe this year. Investigators are working to determine what led to the tragic crash and identify the victims so their loved ones can be notified.
