Two leaders of the Salvation Army church in Zimbabwe who were posted to Botswana died in a tragic car crash just outside Gaborone on Saturday.

Major Sheila Rutanhira, who held the position of Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries in Botswana, and Major Isaiah Motsi, the corps officer of the Gaborone church, were killed in the accident along with another person identified only as Pretty Tore.

The church leaders were traveling back to their workstations in Botswana after attending a funeral in Zimbabwe when the crash occurred in Ditebe. Major Siphiwe Motsi, Isaiah Motsi’s wife who survived the accident, is recovering in Mahalapye Hospital with hand and jaw fractures requiring surgery on Monday.

The Salvation Army territorial commander in Zimbabwe, Sydney Barson, confirmed the identities of the deceased and said the territory was in shock following the tragic loss of the church leaders. More details about the accident and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days. The bodies of the two Zimbabwean victims are set to be repatriated home this week.
