A horrific head-on car crash near Kwekwe left 7 people injured Friday evening in what police are calling a preventable collision.
According to local police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the accident happened around 8pm on May 20 when a Honda Fit travelling from Kadoma towards Kwekwe slammed into a Honda HRV vehicle heading in the opposite direction along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.
The Fit, driven by 28-year-old Takudzwa Adrine Dzinza of Mbizo, Kwekwe and carrying 4 passengers, collided with the HRV driven by 32-year-old Tafadzwa Muza of Mbizo, also with 2 passengers aboard.
Inspector Mahoko said Muza made a sudden right turn directly into the path of the oncoming Fit at the 211 kilometer peg near Quick Stop Service Station, causing the catastrophic head-on crash.
All 7 people in the two vehicles suffered varying injuries and were rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital where they are now recovering.
Inspector Mahoko urged motorists to exercise caution and follow all traffic regulations to avoid such preventable collisions. He said police were investigating if speed, alcohol or distraction played a role in the crash.
The injured victims were lucky to escape with their lives after the violent impact of the head-on collision between the two compact cars. But the crash serves as a warning of the chaos and carnage that can result when drivers fail to follow the basic rules of the road.
