An elderly man suffering from dementia has gone missing from a hospital in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare.

Alexander Ushewokunze, 73, was admitted to Parirenyatwa Hospital on September 23 for treatment but was later found to be missing.

Ushewokunze’s grandson, Isaac Kunorozva, had accompanied him to the hospital but was later informed by staff that his grandfather had disappeared. When last seen, Ushewokunze was wearing a navy blue suit with a yellow t-shirt and black shoes.

A hospital security guard reportedly told Kunorozva that Ushewokunze had boarded a commuter bus to Hatfield. However, searches by family members in Hatfield and other locations have yielded no results.

This is not the first time Ushewokunze has gone missing. He previously disappeared in 2020 and was later found in Marondera. Ushewokunze has dementia and before going missing, he resided in a plot in Banket.

Kunorozva has made a police report but the missing persons appeal is a last resort. Anyone with information on Ushewokunze’s whereabouts is urged to contact the police or Kunorozva on 0713 151 365 or 0773 422 045.
