A self-styled traditional healer from 7B Village Igusu area under Chief Deli Nyamandlovu, Matabeleland North province has been arrested for allegedly forcing his teenage client to submit to ƨǝx so that she could be cured of her illnesses.

Isaac Dube (44) turned a 19-year-old girl who had been left under his care for a cleansing ritual into his ƨǝx slave.

Circumstances are that the victim who was staying in South Africa came back home in March this year for a “ritual” cleansing and was taken to Timothy Moyo’s homestead where she was supposed to stay until she was healed.

It is reported that from the period between March and May while she was staying at Moyo’s homestead she was being attended to by Dube.

During that period Dube is alleged to have developed an interest in the victim and started having ƨǝxual interc0urse with her several times without her consent.

It is alleged that sometime in May Dube asked his victim to accompany him to the bush to look for herbs.

While in the bush the victim is reported to have asked Dube for his phone claiming she wanted to send pictures of them while digging herbs and Dube complied.

When she was given the phone that is when she exploited that opportunity by quickly sending her mother a message that she was being rɑpǝd almost on a daily basis by Dube.

After that she deleted the message and returned the phone to Dube.

The girl’s mother, after receiving the sad news, quickly phoned the grandmother who then proceeded to ZRP Nyamandlovu and made a report.

Police swiftly reacted and went to arrest Dube who has since appeared before Tsholotsho resident magistrate Victor Mpofu charged with rɑpǝ as defined in Section 65 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He was remanded in custody to 26 May pending trial at the regional court.

Meanwhile, police and gender activists have been on record educating and raising awareness among women, especially in the rural areas, to become aware of their rights and guard against rɑpist sangomas and prophets.
