Police in the Zimbabwe capital of Harare have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the murder of a newborn infant. Authorities took Marvellous Mashanda into custody after spotting him walking down the street with a gruesome cargo: the body of a newborn baby boy tucked inside a bucket.
According to a tweet issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Mashanda was arrested on May 17, 2023. Police said the suspicious incident occurred at a residence on Old Mazowe Road in the Mount Hampden area of Harare. When officers approached Mashanda, they found he was carrying a bucket containing the lifeless body of the new baby.
Mashanda has been charged with infanticide in relation to the tragic incident. The news has stunned residents of Harare, with many expressing sh0ck that a young man would be walking the streets with the body of an innocent newborn child stored in a bucket. The case has highlighted concerns about infanticide and child welfare in Zimbabwe’s capital city.
