A 9-year-old girl tragically lost her life after falling while running away from traditional masquerades at a school in Mabvuku, Harare on May 15.
Police confirmed the sad incident in a tweet, stating that the girl died after falling to the ground while fleeing masquerades (referred to as Zvigure) at a school along Sinini Drive in Eastview Phase 1, Mabvuku. Investigations are underway.
The Zvigure tradition involves masked dancers performing at cultural and religious celebrations. While the masquerades can be a source of entertainment, their appearance can also cause fear, particularly among children.
In this unfortunate case, the young girl died after falling while running away from the masquerades at a school. No further details about the incident were provided.
