Zimbabwean musician Progress Chipfumo has been charged with negligent driving causing an accident in Harare.

According to court documents, Chipfumo was allegedly driving along Samora Machel Avenue on March 19 when he changed lanes without checking if it was clear. His BMW X3 SUV reportedly collided with a Nissan Cube driven by Shepherd Pazara.

While neither driver sustained injuries in the collision, both vehicles were damaged. Chipfumo’s SUV suffered damage to its left front door, bumper and fender, while Pazara’s car had frontal damage.

Chipfumo pleaded not guilty to negligent driving in court and was released on free bail as he was returning home after the incident. His trial has been scheduled for June 7.

Polite Chikiwa, representing the state, filed the charges against Chipfumo, accusing him of causing the accident through negligent lane-changing.

If found guilty, Chipfumo could face a fine or imprisonment for negligent driving. However, his claim of not guilty means he does not admit responsibility for the collision.
