Zimbabwean politics is heating up as the country gears up for the general elections on August 23, 2023. One incident that has caught the attention of Zimbabweans is footage of a ZANU PF driver who couldn’t contain his excitement while greeting Nelson Chamisa, the leader of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Chamisa surprised the public on July 15 by walking along Simon Mazorodze Road in Harare, greeting supporters one by one despite the congested road. The streets came to a standstill as drivers honked their cars in excitement, with some in pickup trucks even whistling for the opposition leader.

But the most heart-warming moment was when a ZANU PF driver, driving a branded car, stopped to greet Chamisa. The driver gave Chamisa a firm handshake and raised his fists in jubilation as the CCC leader walked away. The incident has excited Zimbabweans online, with many commenting on the unexpected show of support from a member of the ruling party.

The CCC held its campaign launch rally on July 16 in Gweru, while the ruling ZANU PF launched its campaign on June 24 in Chipinge. With tensions high and campaigns in full swing, Zimbabweans will be watching closely as the country heads towards the polls.
